Behind the Scenes of Objection to Reality

Every great story begins with a spark—an idea that refuses to be ignored. My upcoming psychological thriller, Objection to Reality, is still in its early development stages. Still, I’m excited to share a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process, the inspiration behind the story, and the characters who will bring this gripping tale to life.

The Inspiration Behind the Story

Behind the scenes of Objection to Reality:

As a psychiatric nurse, I’ve encountered the complexities of the human mind firsthand. This experience has fueled my fascination with the blurred lines between truth and perception—what people believe to be actual versus what is objectively true. That theme became the foundation of Objection to Reality.

I also wanted to explore the legal world, where evidence is king, but perception can still shape a case’s outcome. The story follows Sophie Reyes, a district attorney, as she prosecutes Olivia Alexander, a brilliant but manipulative psychologist accused of a heinous crime. However, as the case unfolds, Sophie questions everything—her instincts, the evidence, and even her reality.

Crafting Complex Characters

A psychological thriller is only as intense as its characters. I wanted to create individuals with layered motivations, hidden agendas, and personal stakes that drive the story forward.

• Sophie Reyes: As a dedicated district attorney, Sophie is used to seeing the world in black and white—guilt or innocence. However, when Olivia Alexander’s case challenges everything she knows, she must confront her vulnerabilities. Balancing her demanding career with her home life—her husband, Tony, and their 13-year-old son, Lucas—adds an emotional depth to her journey.

• Olivia Alexander: The accused in Sophie’s latest case is a psychologist who understands people better than they understand themselves. She’s dangerously intelligent, charming, and always one step ahead. But is she truly guilty or playing a psychological game to manipulate the legal system?

• Edward Alden & Vivian Hayes: These two figures play key roles in shaping Sophie’s case. Edward, a defense attorney, is a formidable opponent in the courtroom, while Vivian, a forensic psychologist, provides insight that may be the key to unraveling Olivia’s true intentions.

Blending Psychological and Legal Thrills

I wanted Objection to Reality to perfectly balance psychological tension and legal drama. The courtroom scenes will have high-stakes arguments, mind games, and unexpected twists, but the psychological battles outside the courtroom will be just as intense.

• How does Olivia’s expertise in psychology allow her to manipulate those around her?

• Can Sophie trust the evidence, or is someone pulling the strings?

• What happens when the person sworn to uphold justice begins questioning what’s real?

These are the kinds of questions that will keep both Sophie—and the readers—on edge.

Setting the Stage in Briarcliff, California

The setting of a thriller is just as important as its characters. Briarcliff, California, has a polished exterior, but shadows lurking beneath the surface. From the imposing courthouse to Olivia’s eerily pristine office, every location in the novel will reflect the tension and uncertainty that drive the story forward.

What’s Next?

As I continue to develop Objection to Reality, I’m diving deeper into legal research, character development, and plot twists that will leave readers guessing until the final page. I can’t wait to share more about this journey, from crafting suspenseful scenes to exploring the psychological mind games that make thrillers so gripping.

If you love legal dramas, psychological suspense, or stories that challenge your perception of reality, stay tuned—this one’s for you.
